The Cece Yara Foundation was founded by Mrs. Bola Tinubu, a child advocate, mother and lawyer on a quest to prevent Child Sexual Abuse in Nigeria. Motivated by her belief that childhood should be a period of innocence, safety and joy for ALL children, she took the step to establish The Cece Yara Foundation when research reports estimated childhood sexual violence occurrence in Nigeria to be as high as one in four girls and one in ten boys.
I have spent most of my life advising companies, and business owners, and I currently lead the Corporate Services Group of Olajide Oyewole LLP, a large law firm based in Lagos, Nigeria - I continue to enjoy my professional career after over 20 years.
The phrase 'Cece Yara' means Save The Child
However, over the last 30 years, I have been deeply struck by the general tacit acceptance of the incidence of child sexual abuse in Nigeria brought about by cultural, religious and socio-economic circumstances, the resultant under-reporting of such matters, and the weaker prosecution or conviction rates of alleged perpetrators. It has also become clear to me that because of our traditional and social values, these matters are typically not discussed, leaving the victims without recourse or support to rebuild their childhoods.
