Child Protection And Safeguarding

Globally, it is becoming trendy to empower people working with children within various child centred institutions to react responsibly to disclosure and concerns relating to the safety of child. As a Mandatory Reporter and an active bystander, it is your responsibility to ensure that every child in your care is safe from any form of abuse. This is keeping with the Lagos State Executive Order in respect to the state’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. The Policy emphasises that all schools, child centred and related institutions have a shared responsibility in ensuring the welfare and safety of children. The Policy mandates that such institutions must share information about child protection and good practice that will encourage children to develop a sense of independence and autonomy in a way that is appropriate to their age and development.

Since inception, the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre has built the capacity of over 27,000 professionals through a participatory and community-based approach to protect children from sexual abuse. It is our belief that adults are responsible for the safety of children and that adult should take responsible and proactive step to protect children from sexual abuse.

Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Certification Training is implemented to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse by creating awareness and providing education on prevention of child sexual abuse among professionals in schools, religious organisations, and other youth organisations. It utilizes a train-the-trainer model allowing adults to take ownership of child sexual abuse prevention in their institutions. It provides participants with the appropriate courses of actions to take, understanding who might be vulnerable, knowledge and skills needed to safeguard children. It examines the common types of abuse, how to recognise them, and how to respond to concerns.

The Child Protection and Safeguarding Certification Programme will enable participant’s access to information about child protection service providers and child centered agencies, government policies, guidance and practice in relation to children’s welfare (including access to support and interventions for any form of child abuse). It will provide an overview of the various laws and legislations needed to safeguard children and helps to maintain a child focus relationship during investigations. The training is a 4 hour interactive session which uses a variety of written text, interactive activities, and real-life case studies to help you understand your responsibilities. It will provides you with an understanding and grounding of the critical aspects of child protection laws also access to counseling, justice and psycho-social support.
